Paul Winter’s “My Brazil”, Westport, CT, May 12
"MY BRAZIL" IN WESTPORT: May 12 Paul Winter performs repertoire from his second musical home, Brazil, with some of his favorite Brazilian musicians: percussionist Vanderlei Pereira, bassist Gustavo Amarante, and guitarist Paul Meyers. "My Brazil" will feature a range of Brazilian music, including songs by Carlos Lyra, Edu Lobo, and Antonio Carlos Jobim; Afro-samba music of Bahia, in Brazil's northeast; carnival songs from Rio; and music of Brazil's great composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. Paul Winter performs his 23rd annual Summer Solstice Celebration at New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Saturday morning June 16th, at 4:30 am, featuring cellist Eugene Friesen, pianist Jeff Holmes, and organist Ray Nagem. Special guests include vocalist Theresa Thomason, and the 16-voice Pletenitsa Balkan Choir, conducted by Christiane Karam.
