SUMMARY:Black Hills Unity Concert
DESCRIPTION:\n\nOn September 13th and 14th\, 2014\, in the Black Hills of South Dakota\, thousands of people will converge for a UNITY CONCERT -- bringing together Native American tribes with those on the right side of justice to return the guardianship of the Black Hills to the Great Sioux Nation.\n\nThe Unity Concert is a gathering of members of the Pte Oyate (Buffalo Nation\, also called the Great Sioux Nation)\, artists\, performers and concerned global citizens committed to educating and raising support for the Black Hills Initiative. Its organizers and participants believe that the only way for the United States of America to be truly great is to honor its word and honor the treaties. Join us in healing the Heart of a Nation by restoring the guardianship of the Black Hills to the Great Sioux Nation.\n\nThe Sioux peoples consider the Black Hills to be “the Heart of Everything that is\,” their ancestral homeland and site of their sacred ceremonies. The US Government’s illegal seizure of this land (1872) caused irreparable damage to the Sioux people and their culture. The Great Sioux Nation has refused to accept any compensation offered for the land\, saying “The Black Hills were never for sale.” President Barack Obama’s expressed commitment to consider the Great Sioux Nation’s claim in 2009 inspired fresh impetus for the Sioux tribes to heal\, unite\, and make a comprehensive appeal to the US Government to return their rightful heritage.\n\n\n\n\n“Today the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples gives us the modern tools to stand up and declare our rights. We have come back to the table on the basis of what is recognized for Indigenous Peoples’ rights and on the basis of what sacredness is.” – Leonard Little Finger (Lakota Elder)\n\n
